Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The New York Islanders continued to climb in 1978-79, improving upon past seasons with 51 wins and 116 points, enough for a first-place finish overall. Clark Gillies’ reputation as a premier power forward grew, with his 35 goals and 91 points placing him tied for ninth in league scoring. Originating from his personal collection, we offer Gillies’ Clarence Campbell Trophy presented for the Islanders status as NHL regular-season champions. At 11” in height, the silver-plated handled cup with removable lid and chased detailing sits atop a hexagon-shaped 3-inch wooden base and is engraved “New York Islanders – 1978-79 – Clark Gillies” on the front, with the name of the trophy and its "1966" year of inception on the reverse. Sporting light wear throughout with small areas of surface loss to the handles, finial and along the rims, the marvelous and important keepsake displays beautifully. Gillies has signed the underside in black marker, adding his induction year. A signed LOA from Clark Gillies will accompany.
