Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

From one Wayne Gretzky aficionado to another, or to an entrepreneurial hobbyist this mammoth Gretzky card collection will likely go, with the following details and highlights for you to consider. In mixed condition throughout with the best grades naturally occurring on the cards released most recently, the entirety of the group is paced by a copy of Gretzky’s iconic 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie card that shows in the condition range of FAIR due to corner wear and multiple creases that are present. Largely made up of O-Pee-Chee releases with a few Topps, Red Rooster, Neilson’s, Upper Deck and Panini products mixed in, cards from Wayne’s top years with the Edmonton Oilers in the top conditions present include six (6) 2nd year 1980-81 offerings with grades falling in the range of VG/EX to EX-MT+, a pair of 1981-82 cards with both in EX vicinity, four (4) 1982-83 cards between VG/EX and EX/EX-MT, two (2) 1983-84 O-Pee-Chee’s at EX and EX-MT, a solo 1984-85 example at EX/EX-MT, three (3) 1985-86 releases rated as EX, EX/EX-MT and EX-MT, three (3) 1986-87 cards, including a box bottom cut out, between EX and EX-MT/NM and a single 1988-89 OPC in EX-MT/NM shape showing Canada’s golden boy during his first season in sunny Los Angeles. Chalked full of all the award winners, league leaders and all-star issues from the years listed above as well, sometimes including as many as 20+ of one card, the conditions still vary with a good mix represented but largely between VG/VG-EX and EX-MT/NM with unsightly examples largely avoided with only a small number slipping through the cracks. Rounding out the group, some of Wayne’s biggest comparables are present through names such as Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull on late-1980s and early-1990s releases of all types, both cards and stickers. Please take a good look at the images provided to try and get some idea of what is included and good luck in scoring The Great One!
