Wayne Gretzky led the way as the Edmonton Oilers won the Stanley Cup for a second year in a row in the spring of 1985. The Great One won the Conn Smythe Trophy to add to the Hart and Ross Trophies that he claimed every year at the height of the Oilers dynasty. HOFers Messier, Kurri, Coffey, Anderson and Fuhr sped Edmonton to opening round sweeps of L.A. and Winnipeg before Chicago pushed the Oilers to six games before falling in the Campbell Conference final. Gretzky capped a record-setting 47-point playoff as the Oilers beat Philadelphia in five games to retain the Cup. Offered is the strikingly beautiful 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup ring that was presented to trainer Barrie Stafford. This 14-karat gold beauty weighs approximately 34 grams and displays real diamonds in the tableau, with a huge one on in the center surrounded by a bed of smaller diamonds. "1985 Stanley Cup Champions" encircles the bezel. “Edmonton Oilers” is displayed above Stanley Cups with “84” and “85” on the left shank, with a carrot at the bottom. The right shank displays "Stafford" above the Oilers logo with “85” at the bottom. "14K" is stamped inside the size 10 3/4 band. Very nicely preserved with sharp details and proud wear that shows in the form of a couple of marks as well as scratches, mostly on the back of the band (the marks include a small gouge on the left edge of the right shank to the left of “1985”, and a small scuff on the right edge to the right of Stafford’s name). This item was originally part of the Barrie Stafford’s collection sold by Classic Auctions in 2016 and will come with Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA.
