Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
The 1986-87 Edmonton Oilers brought the Stanley Cup back to the City of Champions with a seven-game win over Philadelphia in the final after a heartbreaking early playoff exit the previous spring. In a tradition dating back to 1957, the NHL presented Wayne Gretzky and company personal Stanley Cup trophies. This one was awarded to Oilers trainer Barrie Stafford, whose name is engraved below the three columns of player names on the barrel, beginning with Gretzky, as captain, and including fellow HOFers Messier, Coffey, Fuhr, Kurri and Anderson. Very nicely preserved with a tiny dent from a small nick to the right of “Edmonton Oilers 1986-87” on the barrel, there is also a few very minor scratches and tiny blemishes. The Boffey sticker remains affixed to the green felt on the bottom of the round black wood base. This item was originally part of the Barrie Stafford’s collection sold by Classic Auctions in 2016 and will come with Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA.
