Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
An absolute requirement for any advanced hockey autograph collection and crucially historic to the evolution of Canada’s foremost sport, we offer a large indenture document from 1894 signed by Lord Stanley as “Derby” - a title inherited and first used 1893 onwards. At approx 22” x 27”, the vellum parchment sports a number of seals and postal stamps, as well as an illustration, with Stanley signing over the bottom right near a seal as "Derby". We should also note that the namesake of North America’s greatest trophy is mentioned in the document as “Stanley of Preston”, the same manner in which his name appears on the Stanley Cup. Exhibiting fold lines with toning along with a few creases, the large document displays beautifully, and would benefit from a professional framing. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
