Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Looking young and young indeed was the sensational Walter Payton when he appeared on his rookie card during his second professional season, with the write-up on the back of card #148 mentioning how he had scored more points than anyone else in NCAA history and how he had "capped an outstanding rookie season," leading the Bears in rushing and touchdowns - a sign of things to come! Sweetness' exploits have resulted in his RC dwarfing the 100-plus others in Topps' 1976 set in terms of importance/value, with this example receiving NM 7 status numerous years ago at PSA. A light ding to the top left corner, light wear to the corner below and a subtle surface indention (in the top border, just right of center) are noteworthy. The holder itself has been well cared for; we do not spot any unsightly scratches/flaws.
