Joining his famous brother as an NHL superstar beginning in the 1968-69 season as a member of the Stanley Cup-champion Montreal Canadiens, goaltender Tony Esposito was claimed on waivers by the Chicago Black Hawks the following season where he earned the coveted Calder Memorial Trophy. Tony O would guard the “Madhouse on Madison” crease for his entire career, appearing in six All-Star Games while securing a trio of Vezina trophies. This goal stick was used by the HOF netminder during the late-1970s. A Northland Registered Pattern model with “Esposito” stamped to the upper shaft and “35” handwritten, the original black tape remains over the blade and paddle, with white-over-black tape to the knob. The “Registered Pattern” number of “9121” is stamped to the shaft. The striping accent is intact over the handle, with the stick showing heavy use, with wear to the taped blade including small dings to the reverse from the blade making contact with Espo’s blade tips. There is also a crack at the heel and tears to the tape, with a large chip along the bottom edge of the paddle. Two holes drilled to the shaft hint that the stick was likely mounted and displayed at some point.
