Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The darling of Manhattan throughout his Hall of Fame career with the New York Rangers, Rod Gilbert reached celebrity status in The Big Apple, and like Joe Namath, was a revered man about town. Known as Mr. Ranger, Gilbert was a nine-time All-Star, with franchise records held for New York including career goals and points. This stick was used by the star during the twilight of his career in the mid-to-late-1970s. A Sher-Wood PMP 5001 Player Pattern model with “7” and “R. Gilbert” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick retains the original white tape over the blade and handle, with the striping accents intact. Showing light game-use with wear to the taped section of blade and some darkening to the tape over the handle, we should also note that the underside blade is just slightly worn at the heel, with this likely occurring some point after use by Gilbert.
