Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Three pre-war hockey card sets are represented in this KSA-graded ensemble, with two from the scarce 1933-34 V129 set likely piquing the interest of collectors of vintage material and led by a rookie card of Hall of Famer and former NHL president Red Dutton. Card #23 presents nicer than its 3 VG assessment, with a not-drastic stain but no creases observed, while a swell image of Detroit goalie John Ross Roach appears on a lower grade card, slabbed 1 FP. Like Dutton, fellow HOFer Bun Cook had toiled several years in the NHL before his rookie cards were issued, with Cook’s ’33-34 Ice Kings RC receiving a mark of 2 G. Seven ’37-38 O-Pee-Chee cards complete the lot, with 138-Charlie Conacher (2 G) most notable and 155-Paul Haynes leading condition-wise at 4 VGE. The high bidder will also receive 140-Buzz Boll (3 VG), a trio at 2 G; 158-Paul Drouin RC, 171-Bob Gracie and 172-Herb Cain, and a 1 FP example of 159-Pit Lepine. Other than a couple of light scratches to the front of the holders of the Roach and Cook cards, the holders do not exhibit any notable scratches or scuffs.
