Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The grand oldman of baseball, Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy, better known as Connie Mack, was a player, manager and team owner, with his half century of leading the Philadelphia Athletics as team manager unmatched in baseball history. Beginning as a catcher with Washington in 1886, Mack later led the white elephant through two distinct World Series dynasties, finally retiring in 1950 at age 87. We have a handwritten signed letter from the legendary baseball guru. At 7 ½” x 8 ½” and on “American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia” letterhead, the correspondence addressed to a “Miss Schuler” is dated April 12, 1953, with Mack mentioning to the addressee that she can present this letter at the Shibe Park gate, with the attendant then to escort her to Mack’s office to receive tickets. With no issues for the fountain pen signature or text, there are fold lines to the letter and a few areas of toning, with the original Philadelphia Athletics envelope with intact stamp with address handwritten in Mack’s hand also included along with a modern 8” x 10” print. A JSA LOA will accompany.
