Exhibiting only minimal handling and wear are these two classic sets from the early 1980s, with both ensembles averaging NM. That means you can expect mostly EX-MT and NM-or-better cards, with unmarked checklists and team checklists and the young Edmonton Oilers highlighting the lineup. Mark Messier’s key 1980-81 rookie card has EX-MT+ corners but is dropped by a (lower left) edge ding, with a slight diamond cut also to note – we’ll refrain from assigning an overall grade. The Ray Bourque RC is off-centered and otherwise EX+, while Wayne Gretzky’s second-year card is EX-MT and joined by five others featuring Wayne. Gartner (EX-MT), Goulet, Liut, Vaive, Langway, Craig and others appear on rookie cards, with numerous notable RCs also involved in the ’81-82 gathering. Paul Coffey’s rookie has a corner ding and an obvious diamond cut, with centering not perfect with Jari Kurri’s RC (o/w EX-MT) and 106-Gretzky (o/w NM). Bourque’s #1 card (EX-MT) and RCs of Moog, Anderson, Savard, Stastny, Murphy and Ciccarelli, along with more Gretz specials, contribute to the appeal. One swoop can net you two almost-entirely crease-free sets.
