Surfacing less often than their World Hockey Association counterparts and leading this ensemble are cards that came folded in 5-card panels and found in Quaker Cereal boxes during the WHA’s second season. The ten panels here have been stored flat for years and are mostly in beauty EX-MT and NM-or-better condition, with however the Bobby Hull-led panel exhibiting evidence along the bottom edge of having been “caught” in the cellophane-sealing process. Cheevers and JC Tremblay are other notables, while several players appear on their only collectible – cool. Some kids thought mini posters from the same season were cool, with a set here starring the Howe family, Gordie, Hull and Cheevers and in attractive (EX average) condition with no unsightly flaws. Better-known card sets include a 132-card assembly from ’76-77 and a 66-card job from ’77-78, both stored in 9-pocket pages. The pulled star/key cards reveal that crease-free EX-MT-or-better examples are what you can anticipate. Overall pleasing centering in the former is to note, with however an off-centered (unmarked) checklist, while the #1 Howe card in the ’77-78 set is poorly cut and otherwise EX with a surface indentation. All in all, neat stuff from a special time in hockey history.
