Originally formed in 1928 and playing in a number of leagues throughout it’s existence, the Quebec Aces joined the American Hockey League in 1959 and served as a farm club for the Philadelphia Flyers, from 1967 to 1971. We offer a late-1960s Quebec Aces jersey. Originally acquired by our consignor in 1976 while a stick boy for the Richmond Wildcats (Southern Hockey League), his detailed accompanying LOA states that the Richmond Coliseum had two large rolling storage bins, with one containing the uniforms of the Quebec Aces, the other, the equipment of the Richmond Robins. Our consignor was given permission to take the Aces jerseys for a pick-up team that played at the Richmond Coliseum when the venue was not being used. Some of the jerseys from the collection were later sold, some given away, with others stolen in the late-1970s and later recovered by police, as they were being used by kids for street hockey! This specimen is attributed to player Ralph MacSweyn. The collar tag is gone (outline visible), with a faded General Athletic laundering label affixed to the inside hem. Measuring out to a size 50, the durene garment features a partially-embroidered Aces team crest with “4” in single twill sewn to the sleeves and verso. Showing a number of marks and small stains to the front, the cuffs are unraveled, with scrapes and material pulls to each sleeve. Some of the threading to the reverse number has also given way, with a few small holes throughout visible. As the jersey was later used in additional capacities, some of the wear may have come from off-ice use. A pair of original uniform socks are also included, with these showing heavy use including holes.
