A two-time Grey Cup champion with the BC Lions in 2006 and 2011, Kelly Bates enjoyed a ten-year career in the Canadian Football League with seven of the ten years being spent in the black and orange of the Lions. Presented here and hailing from the 2008 campaign is a BC Lions jersey worn by Bates. Made by Reebok and tagged a size 48 with 4” of extra body length as indicated by the jock tag on the lower front hem line, the jersey features a sewn in “08-48” patch affixed on the inner collar with the CFL and Reebok logos on the front and back necklines respectively. The front of the jersey features Bates’ number “59” in dual layer stacked white and black tackle twill on the bright orange mesh background. Additionally, the front also features league sponsor patches of Rona and Scotiabank on either side of the upper chest as well as the Lions wordmark logo in the middle. The sleeves and verso of the jersey feature Bates’ number “59” once again in the same style with the back number “5” having been signed by Bates in black marker and displaying well with no flaws whatsoever. “Bates” has been spelt out on an affixed matching orange nameplate in single layer white twill. The shoulders of the jersey feature the well-known Lions logo patch on each side as well as Reebok logos similar to that found on the back neckline. Game wear on this orange ensemble is moderate throughout with a team repair being found at the neckline as well as one on the right shoulder above the Reebok logo. Paint transfer, burns, and marks are found on each shoulder as well and a hole is found in the seam at the right sleeve cuff. Overall an excellent example of a game-worn jersey of a Grey Cup Champion.
