Born in Scotland and raised in Cobourg, Ontario, defenseman Steve Smith was drafted by Edmonton and won a trio of Stanley Cup championships with the Oilers, and represented our nation at the 1991 Canada Cup. From his last of six seasons with the club, we have a photo-matched Oilers jersey worn by Smith during the 1991 Stanley Cup playoffs, where he scored 3 points in 18 games. A torn and sewn-down Maska label is affixed to the collar, with “90/91” and “3” (third set) handwritten above, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 58. Styled with the famous Oilers team crest in layered tackle twill, “5” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “Smith” across the nameplate in single white twill. The jersey also sports customized sleeves, and we should note evidence of a former alternate’s “A” over the left breast (Smith wore the “A” in Game 7 of the first round of the playoffs vs Calgary when Kevin Lowe was injured). Sporting heavy game-use with puck and stick marks over the front and sleeves along with scrapes, pulls and burns, there are also numerous team repairs, with examples situated on the front (1) and sleeves (8). Getty Image #1191963732 (February 16, 1991) has been matched to the crooked placement and particularities of the number "5" on the left sleeve, with the image also showing the customized sleeve. A team LOA and MeiGray COR will accompany (both documents have been laminated together).
