Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/2/2022
Honoured with his portrait gracing the Canadian five-dollar bill for almost half a century, Sir Henri Charles Wilfrid Laurier entered office in 1896 as Canada’s 7th Prime Minister, serving for 15 years, until 1911. Remembered for his vision of individual liberty, he also sought to establish Canada as an autonomous country within the British Empire. We have a signed and framed photo of the first francophone Prime Minister. At 5” x 8” and affixed to a larger mount, Laurier is pictured in a posed and relaxed moment, fully dapper in period finery. Signing the mount directly beneath the portrait, the large and flowing signature displays brilliantly with no issues. A stamp appears over the bottom right section of the mount from Ottawa lensman Topley, with the mount framed to full dimensions of just over 8” x 12”. Sporting a bit of silvering along edges of the portrait, the mount and photo remain in excellent condition, with some wear to the frame. Laurier would leave us in 1919 at the age of 77.
