Guy Lafleur’s important and coveted O-Pee-Chee rookie card is offered here, with KSA deeming this example of card #148 worthy of an 8 NMM assessment. Cards like this were found in 10-cent (2nd Series) wax packs during Guy’s first NHL season, with the back of the card mentioning how the #1 draft pick “had pressure built all around him as he started the 1971-72 campaign because so many looked upon him as the immediate replacement for Jean Beliveau.” After Guy’s 103-goal and 130-goal seasons with the Quebec Remparts in his last two years of junior, the OPC writers were pretty confident that Lafleur would continue his scoring prowess in the NHL, ending off the write-up with “Destined to be a super-star,” while the cartoon on the back is accompanied by “Guy will be a super-star.” Guy’s electrifying style of play and his six consecutive 50-goal seasons contributed to his immense popularity, rendering his rookie card a prerequisite to a Lafleur shrine. A light ding to the upper right corner, a pin-size surface indentation nearby and toning (more noticeable on the back) are noteworthy, as are a couple of light scratches to the front of the KSA holder.
