The official NHL puck during the era Wayne Gretzky made his debut with the Edmonton Oilers, this lot offers a desirable Viceroy official puck collection of 19. Hailing from the personal collection of Norm Scully, each puck sports a rubberized team logo on the obverse and rubberized Viceroy NHL shield logo in orange on the reverse, with examples present for Atlanta (2, one puck has darkened logos), Vancouver (2, with each somewhat faded/worn and crazing to the logo on one), Quebec (2, one has a darkened team logo, while the other has indentations to the Viceroy logo), Colorado (2, one has a worn Viceroy logo), Rangers (2, one has a darkened logo and some minor residue to the puck), Minnesota (heavier wear), Detroit, St Louis (some residue to the puck), Cleveland (some residue to the puck), Montreal (minor crazing to the team logo), Islanders, Canucks (crazing to the team logo), Kings (some darkening to the team logo) and Washington (residue to the puck). The majority show light to moderate wear unless otherwise noted. A signed LOA from Norm Scully will accompany.
Joining the Toronto Nationals of the Metro Junior B Hockey League in 1974-75 as a team trainer, Norm Scully spent a trio of seasons serving the club, including in 1976-77 when the team was renamed the Seneca Nationals and was graced by the presence of none other than Wayne Gretzky. We offer a number of items from Scully’s personal holdings from his time as trainer, including desirable pucks he collected from both the NHL and WHA.
