Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Starting with a pair of games on Oct 11, 1972, with Cleveland shutting out Quebec and Alberta getting past Ottawa, the inaugural WHA season featured 12 competing clubs playing 78 regular-season games, with the New England Whalers winning the first Avco Cup championship after defeating the Winnipeg Jets. Hailing from the personal collection of Norm Scully, we have a rare and seldom-seen high-grade WHA blue Biltrite official game puck collection of 7. Featuring six team pucks which serves as half of a complete set of 1972 WHA team pucks, specimens are present for Winnipeg, New York, Cleveland, Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles, with each showing a white WHA logo with “WHA” in red, along with a blue Biltrite game puck with Red WHA logo (“WHA” is in white). Each puck sports a clean logo, with “Made in Canada” stamped to each – mostly on the team logo side, with the WHA logo puck sporting the “Made in Canada” along an edge on the blank reverse. The group remains in beautiful high-grade condition, with just a tiny bit of discolouration to a small area on the Houston puck. A signed LOA from Norm Scully will accompany.
Joining the Toronto Nationals of the Metro Junior B Hockey League in 1974-75 as a team trainer, Norm Scully spent a trio of seasons serving the club, including in 1976-77 when the team was renamed the Seneca Nationals and was graced by the presence of none other than Wayne Gretzky. We offer a number of items from Scully’s personal holdings from his time as trainer, including desirable pucks he collected from both the NHL and WHA.
