One of the most coveted rookie cards of the 1950s is that depicting a lunging Jacques Plante, with the Quaker Oats version of the legendary netminder's RC offered here in alluring crease-free condition. The "green back" versions of Parkhurst's 1955-56 card issue were available in specially-marked boxes of various Quaker Oats cereals and produced in far lesser quantities than the regular Parkies, with a promotion to save and send in cards in exchange for prizes mentioned on the reverse. Plante and the Canadiens began their record run of five straight Stanley Cup titles in '55-56, with Jacques being awarded the Vezina Trophy for lowest goals-against-average after each season's success. His well-known style of coming out of his crease to play the puck and help his defencemen is curiously mentioned on the back of card #50, the write-up ending off with, "He likes to wander all over the ice, giving the coach a headache." With wide top and left borders, the offered example boasts vivid colors, with light edge wear more evident at the top right and bottom right corners. Encapsulated and assessed at EX/NM 6 by SGC, this riveting specimen will have you proudly admiring it upon its delivery - a jewel in your collection it will be. A few light peripheral scuffs to the SGC holder are to note but in no way affect the image of innovator extraordinaire Jacques Plante. *The SGC Population Report tells of but ten such cards graded by the company over the years, with just one 7.5 and one 7 edging the offered (Pop 1) example, while PSA numbers inform of one NM 7 and five EX-MT 6s, out of 51 total submissions of the Plante card.
