Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Featuring an iconic roster that included 10 future Hall of Fame members, the Montreal Canadiens lost only 10 games during the 1977-78 regular-season, catapulting the club to the top of the league, and won the franchise’s third-consecutive Stanley Cup championship after defeating longtime rival Boston in the final. This stick issued to Doug Risebrough has been team-signed by the 1978 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens. A KOHO Custom Pro 221 model with “Risebrough” stamped to the upper shaft, both striping accents are intact, with approx 21 signing both sides of the shaft in blue ballpoint. Signers include Risebrough, along with HOF members Ken Dryden, Yvan Cournoyer, Scotty Bowman, Serge Savard, Steve Shutt, Guy Lafleur, Jacques Lemaire and Larry Robinson (very rushed signature), as well as Pierre Bouchard, Pierre Mondou, Rick Chartraw, Rejean Houle, Brian Engblom, Bill Nyrop, Doug Jarvis, a Habs trainer and others. Dated by the combination of players signing, the inclusion of Engblom leads to a 1977-78 vintage, but it should be noted that he did play two playoff games for the Habs in 1976-77, so the possibility exists of the stick being signed during the 1977 Stanley Cup playoffs. The majority of the signatures display well, with light handling wear to the stick.
