Always all sorts of aspects to tell of when it comes to gatherings of 1964-65 Topps cards so let’s get at it, with all but five of the encapsulated portion here being 1st Series representatives. Jacques Plante’s #68 card, at EX-MT 6 headlines the nicer star power, with Bobby Hull’s All-Star issue slabbed VG-EX 4. Condition leaders at NM-MT 8 are 25-Mohns, 42-F. Smith and 56-Murphy, with 26-MacNeil also an 8 but with an (OC) qualifier. Two NM 7s (7-Hay, 103-Neilson) are followed by 16-McDonald at EX-MT+ 6.5 and then seven EX-MT 6s; #s 2, 19, 23, 43-Blake, 46-Duff, 49 and 50). Also slabbed are 10-McCord (EX 5), 21-Johnston (VG 3) and 73-Maki SP (VG 3). The raw contingent is a mix of numerous conditions, with impressive original gloss observed on 18 EX-MT to NM-or-better cards, most notably 58-Williams SP (NM), 24-Gilbert, 47-Crozier RC and five 2nd Series commons. Expect another dozen EX or EX+ entries (69-Armstrong, 72-Dornhoefer SP RC (EX)), while amid the rest are roughly an even amount of low graders (P-F-G) and those in the VG, VG+ and VG-EX realm, the latter group including 1-Martin RC (VG+), 31-Mikita (VG-EX) and 102-Horton (VG), with both Glenn Halls at VG+. Respectable notables on the low grade roster are 6-Sawchuk, 85-Mahovlich and SPs of 20-Hull, 33-Beliveau, 48-Richard, 74-Villemure (G), 92-Paille RC (G) and 59-Pilote, the latter with EX characteristics but also a square of tape staining on the reverse. Downright Poor are 80-Rousseau SP (back damage) and 105-Horton All-Star SP (heavy creasing), with 106-Mikita AS SP better at F, while the two checklists are partially marked (#54) and mostly marked (#55). You’ve likely noticed that Gordie Howe has not been mentioned – he’s on the not-present list and joined by 91-Nesterenko SP, 94-Keon and 98-Hicke SP. As usual, much to check out and contemplate with Topps’ popular ’64-65 issue.
