Avid collectors of older Canadian Football League material, along with unopened wax box fiends will likely rate this fabulous find as sensational, with author Andy Malycky’s ultra-informative “Collecting Canadian Football” guide listing unopened wax packs as rare and display boxes as extremely rare. CFL enthusiasts are surely aware of the rarity, along with the fact that 1972 marked an end to O-Pee-Chee’s football card-producing days. The 132-card issue includes 39 rather uninspiring rookie cards, although Hall of Famer Ron Estay contributes. The lineup is led by Joe Theisman’s second-year OPC card, along with cards of Ron Lancaster, George Reed, Angelo Mosca, Garney Henley, Tommy Joe Coffey, Jim Young, Wayne Harris and, relatively early in their pro careers, Tony Gabriel, Peter Dalla Riva and Dave Cutler. NFL action involving the Miami Dolphins appears on the display box, home to 36 packs, with eight cards and a stick of gum in each and four different color variations among the (10-cent) wrappers. The packs have all recently been examined and deemed unopened by the experts at Baseball Card Exchange, with BBCE shrink wrap now encasing the jackpot. The right side is a bit pushed-in, with three less-than-an-inch creases in the box top’s upper portion and some pressure bends/creases in the back panel. The box bottom and it’s Bazooka gift/gift certificate promotion is curious, with wear to the corners and edges present. Like you, we’re saying “so what” and anticipate lofty interest in this fascinating and tantalizing CFL rarity.
