Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

Surfacing far less frequently than their Series A and B counterparts/predecessors are O-Pee-Chee Series C cards from the 1935-36 season, with the two dozen comprising the set here featuring rather uniform condition as one of their attributes. The majority display similarly, with corner and edge wear sending them to the VG, VG+ and VG-EX realm. We spot but five cards with a crease, the wrinkles more obvious when checking out the backs (in the last group of six shown). The set’s key rookie card, featuring Lynn Patrick, exhibits rounded corners, along with a small stain on the reverse and is G, (90-Buzz Boll has similar corners), with 73-Wilf Cude RC (the first numbered card) at VG. Hall of Famers contributing are Hooley Smith, Sylvio Mantha, Marty Barry and Art Coulter, all in the aforementioned condition range, with 15 of the 24 cards carrying the “RC” designation. Please take note though that there are several different “sizes” observed, with some cards shorter or narrower than others, although no obvious signs of trimming are detected. Markedly narrow is 87-Pep Kelly RC, while short and miscut on the back is 95-Paul Haynes, the latter card with a type of circular indentation from a stamping device. For those of you wanting to cross off a complete set from your want list of pre-war collectibles, this intriguing assembly will allow you to do just that.
