Surfacing far less frequently than their Series A and B counterparts/predecessors are O-Pee-Chee Series C cards from the 1935-36 season, with thus a complete PSA-encapsulated set of 24 surely to garner substantial interest among serious collectors of pre-war cards. Similar to Series A and B cards, there were/are four different color background variations, with green (10 cards) the dominant color in this assembly. More than half (16 cards) are EX 5 or higher and are led by two that merited NM 7 recognition; 77-Cain RC and 92-Jenkins RC (Pop 3 with only one higher). The set’s first numbered card, 73-Cude RC (OPC followed the #72 that ended its Series B issue), is among five EX-MT 6 representatives and is Pop 1 with only one higher, the others being 84-Metz RC, 85-Thoms, 89-Shields RC and the set’s last card, 96-Goldsworthy RC (Pop 5, 2 higher). Headlining nine EX 5 contributors are Hall of Famers 81-Barry, 82-Mantha and 93-Coulter RC, with 75-Blinco RC, 80-Gottselig, 83-Hollett RC, 87-Kelly RC, 90-Boll and 95-Haynes also slabbed EX 5. There are six VG-EX 4s, including the set’s key rookie card, that of Hall of Famer 79-Lynn Patrick. Other 4s are 74-McGill RC, 78-Marker RC, 88-Jackson RC, 91-Pusie RC and 94-Chapman, while completing are VG 3 cards of HOFer 76-Hooley Smith and 86-Kilrea. Although all but one of the PSA holders are of the older variety, there are none with drastic/unsightly scratches, with a few intermittent light scratches/scuffs observed. From a season that ended with the Red Wings beating the Maple Leafs three-games-to-one to claim their first of two consecutive Stanley Cup titles and considered undervalued by numerous hobbyists, these cards are sure to delight and excite.
