Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

We usually prefer to go chronologically but a sensational and riveting O-Pee-Chee wrapper from 1936-37 leads here, it’s difficult-to-hope-for-much-nicer condition upping the allure. Like the wrapper reveals, “a Stand-Up Action Picture with A Big Chew of Bubble Gum” could be had for just one cent, while 5 “wraps” and 5 cents could be sent to the London, Ontario company for “a swell new Hockey Game.” The black and white cards were die-cut and could be popped and folded to create a stand-up effect. Some not-drastic toning spots are to report but the relic looks to have been stored flat for several decades and is free of rips and holes – superb. Meanwhile, it was in 1933-34 that collectors could send away for an album like the one offered here. Seventy-two cards (Series A and B) could be stored in the book, with the back cover informing that additional albums could be ordered for “another Ten Wrappers and Seven Cents.” This example presents well with vibrant colors, with some cover creases to be aware of, along with small tears (missing pieces) to three pages. From early in the O-Pee-Chee hockey card legacy, this pair is deserving of ample consideration.
