Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
One of the kingpins of Parkhurst’s landmark inaugural hockey card set of 1951-52 is the legendary Maurice Richard, with the Rocket already a legend when the little cards were discovered in little boxes – my, how hockey fans must have been fascinated seeing depictions of their hockey heroes on cardboard! Richard’s 42 goals the previous season, (second only to Gordie Howe’s 43), are among the statistics listed on the front of card #4, with the Habs (65 points in the standings) upsetting Howe's regular-season champion Detroit squad (101 points) in the first round of the playoffs, before bowing to the Maple Leafs in five games in an all-overtime final, ended by Bill Barilko. With an image right of center, the offered example features rich, bold colors, with a sometimes-seen print dot/circle visible on Maurice's right shoulder and the registration not bang-on. Light wear to the four corners is also to note, with no unsightly scratches/scuffs to the KSA holder to report. An absolute prerequisite to an important Richard/RC/Parkhurst collection awaits your bid.
