Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Lovers of high grade pre-war hockey cards will likely love the opportunity that this inviting specimen offers, with one of the exciting stars of the pre-war era, Aurele Joliat, captured in a classic pose on a 1933-34 O-Pee-Chee card. Still going strong in his 12th of 16 seasons with the Canadiens in '33-34, the diminutive left winger popped-in 22 goals to finish tied for third in the NHL, while leading the Habs in scoring. One of the highest scoring '33-34 OPC Joliat cards in PSA history is what you'll be receiving if you come out on top of the bidding here, with just five other NM 7s joining it on the PSA Population Report, the Pop 6s edged by just two at NM-MT 8, out of the 91 total submissions of card #50 over the years. When all '33-34 OPC (Series A and B) cards are reviewed, only a small percentage of them (93 out of 4400+) have graded higher than NM 7. With pleasing centering and a beauty blue background, this example exhibits only a lightly touched bottom left corner, noticeable when viewing the reverse. Numerous light scratches/scuffs to the older PSA holder are also to note. Leading OPC's Series B in terms of importance/value is the Joliat card, with this high grade scarcity worthy of ample consideration.
