Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
For the second of five consecutive seasons in 1960, Johnny Unitas was the star chosen by the folks at Topps to appear on card #1, with an alluring high grade example headlining this duo of Hall of Famers. Joining Jim Brown and Bart Starr as the most important/valuable in the '60 Topps issue, the Unitas card here received an appropriate-looking mark of 86 NM+ some years ago from SGC. A crack in the holder, near the lower right corner, is to mention but no scratches are observed. Meanwhile, legend Merlin Olsen appears on his '64 Philadelphia rookie card, slabbed and graded 8.5 NMM+ by Canada's KSA. The near flawless specimen features appealing centering, with the back of card #91 telling of Olson's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 1961. A scratch-free holder is also to note.
