Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
One of the most difficult areas of collecting in the hobby, with specimens rarely if ever surfacing, vintage NHL ticket stubs predating the historic Original Six era are seldom found, and we offer an utterly desirable example. This scarce Boston Bruins ticket stub graded PR1 by PSA hails from the very first contest ever played at the venerable Boston Garden, on November 20, 1928, and serves as the ONLY EXAMPLE IN THE PSA POPULATION REPORT. Won by the visiting Montreal Canadiens on the strength of a single goal by HOFer Sylvio Mantha, the game featured 15 minor penalties, including those issued to additional Hall members Frank Fredrickson, Cy Denneny, Dit Clapper and Howie Morenz. Witnessed by the over 17,000, the match was also noted for the overflowing crowd that forced their way into the building, with windows and doors at the new venue broken by overzealous supporters. The stub exhibits staining, with a rough torn bottom edge and scrapbook residue on the reverse.
