Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

The kingpins of Topps' 1955 issue are the rookie cards of Roberto Clemente and Sandy Koufax, exceedingly popular and among the most important RCs from the 1950s, with that depicting young fireballer Sandy Koufax as he embarked on an illustrious but all-too-short Hall of Fame career offered here in attractive EX+ 5.5 condition. Pleasing vivid colors contribute to the eye appeal, with three even borders involved in framing the two images of the Brooklyn native who took time to blossom into baseball's most dominant lefthander. A touched top right corner is visible, along with a very light (bottom) edge ding (below "Dodgers"), while ink transfer is spotted in the border beneath Sandy's name and between the two depictions of the future author of four no-hitters. Card #123 speaks of Sandy’s brilliant college strikeout record at the University of Cincinnati and of his prowess at both baseball and basketball in high school. A hero to and an idol of many was Koufax, with this inviting rookie card worthy of ample consideration as you contemplate his greatness. *Just back from PSA, the card is in a scratch-free holder.
