Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
A great grouping of hard to find vintage one-piece sticks totaling four is offered, highlighted by a pair of paper label specimens from EB Salyerds and Rowland, Sons & Co. First, the EB Salyerds stick is from approx the 1910s, with the blade heavily taped right up the shaft past the heel, with additional white tape over the knob. Fragments of the original paper label remain, with these covered with saran wrap for protection, with heavy overall use exhibited and what appears to be no cracks. The Rowland, Sons & Co stick hails from the 1920s or earlier, and sports fragments of the original paper label over the upper shaft, with black tape added to the blade, heel and shaft. Showing heavy use, there are a few small and minor cracks to the blade, with the stick remaining solid. Tape was also added later to the shaft with “St Mary’s” handwritten (a previous owner may have thought the stick was a St Mary’s model – or, Rowland Sons & Co was possibly a distributor for St Mary’s). The third one-piece stick is from the 1930s and sports “Canadian” stamped to the blade, with tape over the heel and knob, with a strip of white tape that was later affixed to the shaft stating “Monarch Hockey Sticks”. Remaining solid despite a few cracks to the blade, there are also a few small holes from the stick once being mounted. Finally, the last one-piece stick is from approx the 1930s and sports no maker’s marks with a crack through the blade and moderate wear, with a hole on the upper shaft from a former mounting, with the stick showing possible signs of originally having a paper label.
