Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
While the baseball hobby is able to boast considerable surviving lumber in the form of 19th and early-20th century baseball bats, hockey – despite the sport being played heavily in Canada since the late-1880s – suffers from an excruciatingly small supply of surviving hockey sticks. Models produced during the 1920s are scarce, with earlier examples from 1910 and prior almost non-existent. This rare one-piece paper label stick hails from approx 1910 or slightly earlier, and sports the gorgeously cut and shaped blade indicative to the period and the earlier game that collectors seek. Featuring a 44” shaft, the remaining original paper label fragments appear to state “Kennedy” (a few letters are missing), with no other stamps or maker’s marks. In excellent vintage condition with no cracks or obtrusive warping, there is some minor dirt staining to parts of one side of the shaft and blade, with the rarely-seen antique prize displaying beautifully overall.
