Appearing on newsstands in the form of Action Comics #1 during the spring of 1938 and forever changing popular culture, Superman serves as the classic archetype of the superhero character, and was the biggest selling superhero character in American comic books for almost half a century. First appearing in early 1939, a Superman daily comic strip was featured in newspapers until May of 1966. This framed display features a mounted Superman daily comic from July 8, 1945, signed by creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (the signatures are not from 1945, but sometime much later), along with a 1960s 5 cent Superman card wrapper and photo of 1950s TV star George Reeves. At approx 8” x 15”, the folded Cleveland Plain Dealer strip is mounted above, with Siegal and Shuster signing each upper side in blue ballpoint, with the additional items mounted beneath. The signatures are flawless, with some expected toning to the newsprint strip and light wear with fold lines to the wrapper. Set in an attractive shadow box display to full dimensions of approx 27 ½” x 28”, a JSA LOA will accompany.
