Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
A veteran of over 500 games with the Montreal Canadiens, skating only for the Habs throughout his NHL tenure, Pit Lepine won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Canadiens in 1930 and 1931, and briefly coached the club after the untimely death of Babe Siebert in 1939. This extremely rare stick was used by the star during the 1936-37 NHL season with Montreal – his second last, and it has been team-signed. A generic model with “9” stamped to the upper shaft and the outline present of the original striping accent, the original tape remains perfectly intact over the blade and knob. Nice game-use is shown with numerous marks along with small chips to the shaft, with the stick in ideal, original untouched condition, remaining the exact same as it’s final day of use. Signed by approx 16, many of the signatures have faded beyond recognition, with some quite easy to decipher. Signers include Lepine, along with Joliat, Blake, Gagnon, Burke, Brown, Haynes, Desilets, Bourque (goaltender) and others. Surviving game-used sticks from the 1930s and earlier are especially scarce, with team-signed specimens featuring historic clubs and star players practically unheard of.
