Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

Maurice Richard is to hockey what Babe Ruth represents to baseball, a legend of almost mythical proportions. Beyond that, The Rocket is a cultural icon among French Canadians and throughout the province of Quebec. This wonderful lot features a huge and stunning signed black and white photo of Maurice wrapping the Stanley Cup in a warm and well-earned embrace, his right hand resting above the names of the 1943-44 Montreal Canadiens team engraved on the barrel of the prized silver chalice. Richard placed a gorgeous silver paint pen autograph in his splendid penmanship on the lower left of this 20” x 16” photo with a James Spence sticker with certification number SS83638 affixed to the bottom right and a RGS sticker on the bottom left corner. Comes with its corresponding JSA Basic Cert, as does the Rocket’s signed full-size replica of his 1942-43 and 1943-44 NHL Player’s Contract. The corresponding JSA sticker with registration number SS8639 is affixed to the verso, which features Richard’s original blue marker signature on this faithful reproduction of the Rocket’s two-year contract with the Canadiens for a salary of $5,000 for each of the two seasons, with a $1,000 signing bonus, and bonus clauses of $250 if Montreal finishes in first place, $150 for a second place finish, $50 for scoring 15 goals during a season and $25 for each goal he scored beyond his 15th of the season, as well as provisions for a minor league salary of $750 in either season, which did not prove necessary. Spectacular tributes to one of the most dynamic players in hockey history, the one and only Maurice “Rocket” Richard.
