Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

Some sharp and alluring Topps cards are among the 100-plus in our title but we’ll first take care of the interesting other items, with mini pennants of the New York Americans, Bruins and Canadiens all with staining but infrequently seen and joined by Diamond Match matchbooks and covers from the 1930s. There’s a full silver matchbook of Boston’s Bob Gracie, while rough but with some or all matches are tan books of Hall of Famers Schriner, Dutton and Ching Johnson. Johnson, Kaminsky, Romnes and speedskater Jaffee highlight nine tan covers, with a few others lacking their strikers. Very intriguing are miniature versions (approximately 2-1/4” x 3”) of Canadiens La Patrie photos from 1927-28. Looking like they were produced many decades ago on thin card stock, the blank-backed affairs picture legends Morenz, Joliat and Hainsworth. And now on to the cards, with (18) ’54-55 Topps examples highlighted by Lindsay, Bathgate, Gadsby, Jim Henry and Camille Henry (RC), although condition is VG or lower. Better (VG-EX) are seven ’57-58s and then EX+ to NM-or-better dominate entries from ’58-59 (5) to ’63-64 (12). In between are a dozen ‘60-61s (Worsley x 2), seven off-centered but sharp ’62-63s (Bucyk, Pilote (2), Rangers team, Black Hawks team), with 1-Schmidt, Ratelle, Gilbert and Rangers team among the ’63-64s. There are 40, including stars, from ’67-68 (mostly VG-EX to EX, with some better/worse) and then 15 from ’69-70 (7-Cashman RC, 49-Vachon). O-Pee-Chee representatives are eight ’69-70s and (10) ’72-73 Team Canada inserts (Mikita (2), Parisé (6), Bergman, Goldsworthy). Completing is a little ’68-69 Shirriff coin action (3)(Lemaire, Ratelle, Gilbert), four full or partially-full ’69-70 Mini-Card Albums and a stack of low grade ’63-64 York Peanut Butter cards. There may be the odd pleasant surprise but the vast majority of the “white backs” have back damage (tape/glue) or are stained. All in all, all sorts of fun possibilities with these classic blasts from the past.
