The first European-born captain of the Montreal Canadiens, Saku Koivu wore the Habs “C” for nine of his thirteen seasons beginning in 1999-00. The skilled Finn would earn the Bill Masterton and King Clancy Memorial trophies while representing his nation throughout his career. This photo-matched Canadiens jersey was worn by Koivu in 1996-97. Sporting a single size “54” fly tag affixed to the collar, embroidered CCM and NHL crests grace the reverse hem. Styled with the famous and sacred CH team crest, the red V-neck has been accented with “11” sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Koivu” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. Exhibiting light use with faint burn marks over each sleeve, the image shown for this listing is matched to the small white mark on the upper left sleeve directly to the left of the number, showing the exact shape and placement, with the extended thread at the bottom right of the team crest and the uneven thread border at the top right red section both visible. We should also note that Koivu is pictured wearing Bauer gloves, which he began wearing during the second half of the 1996-97 season. Koivu played 50 games in 1996-97 registering 56 points (he missed most of December 1996 and January 1997 due to a serious knee injury which occurred in the December 7, 1996 game). Koivu also won the Molson Cup in October, November and December of that year.
