Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

A terrific find that will likely excite collectors of Bill Durnan material, along with those who pursue Bee Hive premiums, is this tie clip picturing the Canadiens' legendary goaltender. Interestingly, Durnan is wearing an assistant captain's "A" on his sweater and that brings forth the story of how Durnan also wore the captain's "C" during his highly successful seven seasons with the Habs, winning the Vezina Trophy on six occasions. Because he played during an era in which hockey cards were not being produced, Durnan collectibles are not plentiful, adding to the appeal. Tie clips like this were available back in the day for 25 cents and a product label or box top from the St. Lawrence Starch Company and similar images also appeared similarly under a clear Lucite dome on Bee Hive “picture rings” and dress/lapel pins, reportedly offered for a couple of years (1949-51). Light scratches to the dome and to the golden stick/clip are to report but nothing unsightly. You'll be pleased at the sight of the relic when it arrives.
