This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Highlighted by well-designed models by noted maker William Morse & Co, this lot offers a group of four pairs of antique 19th century ice skates. Produced in Maine and featuring blond wooden bases with cast steel blades, with “William Morse & Co” stamped to each blade, the skates sport what appears to be 1860s patent dates stamped into each base. Moderate use is shown on the size 10 antique skates. The second pair are of Dutch origin, with the maker “J. Nooitgedagt & Zn.Ij.St” stamped into each blade, with “L” and “R” stamped into each respective blond wooden base along with “28”, with all of the original strapping including the ankle supports remaining intact and just moderate use shown. The third pair are club skates with dark finished bases and hand-hammered pitted blades, with good use shown, with one leather strap remaining on one skate. The final pair are also club skates with leather ankle supports and blonde wooden bases, with most of the strapping intact and good use shown. Please note that each antique skate lot in our current auction hails from an advanced 19th century skate collection.
