Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Uncut sheet enthusiasts, along with those of you who have a fondness for hockey card wax boxes, may find this find intriguing. A total of (12) 1971-72 Topps display boxes are involved in the big (approximately 43” x 54”), thick cardboard piece which had been folded in four. We’ve always thought that the generic Red Wings player on the box top resembles former Red Wing Bill Dineen, while Ken Dyden’s coveted Topps rookie card would be the most important to have been discovered in ’71-72 wax packs. Two dozen 10-cent packs were in boxes when they left the factory. Multiple options await the new owner of this scarce survivor, with one box top and two box bottoms however exhibiting considerable soiling. When talking about the four “panels” (the way the sheet was folded), there is a tear halfway through one fold line and another tear a third of the way through another. Creasing is also present, with four of the box tops displaying superior to the rest. Some edge tears and a few missing pieces (along the edges) are also to note. A nifty 50-year old relic awaits its new appreciative home.
