Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Infrequently offered in quantity, these coveted NHL team crests were premiums offered by the St. Lawrence Starch Company through its popular mail-in program which began in 1934. Proofs of purchase from the company's star product, Bee Hive Golden Corn Syrup, along with its starch products, were sent in, in exchange for photos and other items like these thin cloth "shields" as they were referred to. The eight crests here include the Montreal Maroons and the scarce "Brooklyn" Americans (the latter only available in 1941-42), along with those of the teams which would become known as "The Original Six." They measure 4 1/4" x 3 1/2" and are in pleasing crease-free condition, exhibiting vivid original colors. A tiny, (subtle in most cases) pinhole at the top of each is to be aware of, along with a touch of fraying to a few edges. A thin paper ad describing how to obtain the crests, (multiple creases and paper loss on the reverse), is also included, along with an original mailing envelope from the famous Port Credit, Ontario plant. All-in-all, sweet!....with a New York Americans example required for a master set.
