Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

The frequency in which Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee rookie cards show up at our headquarters is substantial when compared with this infrequently seen piece - an uncut sheet from 1979-80, highlighted by the ultra-coveted famous rookie card of hockey’s all-time most prolific scoring machine, Wayne Gretzky. The Gretz RC is in the second row from the top, eighth card from the left, with no creases detected in Wayne’s image. Similar to some other cards/areas, light scuffs result in some minor color loss in the blue borders but they’re definitely not as unsightly as creases. There are some of the latter to report, most of them among the peripheral wear but with creasing also affecting the Ryan Walter card below Wayne’s and the two to the left of Walter. Talk about the best of three possible uncut sheets to have; this one includes other interesting individual images to admire, with cards of legends Howe and Hull in their last cardboard appearances, all of the team cards, some “leader” cards and team logos of NHL newcomers Edmonton, Winnipeg and Hartford – nice. The aforementioned peripheral wear includes five less-than-an-inch vertical tears descending from the top edge, corner dings and creases and some wear and tear near the bottom, notably an obvious tear affecting the Sabres team card, not far from where one of two checklists (#131) lists Wayne – cool. Housed in a white metal frame and protected by plexiglass, the 132-card survivor is ready to impress family, friends and colleagues. The ooohs and aaahs that Wayne and company will provoke will bring a big proud grin to your face – this killer display is sensational! *It should be noted that the back of the sheet is not in view.
