Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

Arriving in The Big Apple in 1996-97 after rejecting a three-year deal with St Louis worth $15 million, Wayne Gretzky settled in New York for his final three NHL seasons, with #99 fittingly ending his career in 1999. This stick was used by the icon during his swan song NHL season in 1998-99. A Hespeler CS Pro model, “Gretzky” factory graphics appear over the stem of the inserted wooden Hespeler blade. The stick also sports Wayne’s patented Gripper over the knob, with the black tape intact on the blade. There is also coding to the underside of “5S/180”. The blade shows nice game-use with wear to the taped section including a tear, with a bit heavier wear to the shaft, including surface abrasions and wear to the graphics (some of the surface wear appears to originate from tape that was removed). Wayne has signed the heel in blue marker, with the signature quite faded.
