Advancing to the Stanley Cup semifinals in each and every season from 1948-49 to 1973-74, the Montreal Canadiens earned a dozen championships in that time frame, including the iconic 5 consecutive victories in the late-1950s. From the genesis of that amazing run, we have a stick issued to Elmer Lach from circa 1948-49 that has been team-signed by the Montreal Canadiens. A Jimmy McNiece Extra Special model with “16” stamped to the upper shaft, there is also a stamp from team supplier Kenny Grant/Johnny Bennett. Sporting a mostly intact striping accent over the lower shaft, 18 have signed one side of the shaft, with most of the signatures somewhat worn/faded but legible. Signers include Lach, along with Richard, Mosdell, Chamberlain, Curry, Reardon, Bouchard, Dussault, Reay, Riopelle, Durnan, Leger and a few others. “Larry from the boys” is also handwritten at the top of the shaft, with “1949” on the lower shaft (the combination of signatures could originate from either 1947-48 or 1948-49, and with “1949” handwritten, the stick has been attributed to that season). The stick itself exhibits just light age and storage wear.
