Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
The first modern set of trading cards in Canadian football history was produced by Parkhurst following the company's success with hockey and baseball cards, with a low grade ensemble offered here. Players from the "Big Four" IRFU teams - Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Hamilton - are featured, along with 19 instructional (how-to-play-football) cards written by Ted Reeve, a journalist and former star player and coach. All of the player cards are rookie cards, with the key Sam Etcheverry card here grading Poor due to multiple creases, soiling and minor paper loss on the front, with the latter major flaw affecting 33 other examples in varying degrees, including notables 49-Coulter, 56-Wagner, 84-Scott, 91-Neumann, 93-Custis and 100-Simpson. Another ten cards have considerable paper loss on the back, while four others are torn. Noteworthy condition leaders are 41-Herb Trawick (G) and 44-Red O'Quinn (F). Remaining cards without major flaws are acceptable mostly F or G contributors. Card #62 does not exist and it is one of the two different card #58s (Cec Findlay) that is missing, with two low grade (with back damage) duplicates present.
