Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

From one Wayne Gretzky fan/aficionado to another will likely go this stash, with cards from the 1980s and publications from early in Wayne’s career leading in allure. A second-year (1980-81) O-Pee-Chee card is VG due to corner wear and not creasing, while seven ’80-81 specials are in the VG to EX range. Topps cards from the same season include sharp (unscratched) NM+ All-Star and Team Leader entries, while a banged left edge denies #250 similar status. Three regular ’81-82 OPC issues (#106) are creased but five of seven specials are EX-MT-or-better. Also #106 and EX (OC) is an ’82-83 card, joined by 21 specials in toploaders (some duplication) with no obvious creases spotted. At NM or better are Wayne’s regular OPC issues from ’83-84, ’84-85, ’86-87 and ’88-89, while Topps “regulars” and similar condition-wise are from ’84-85, ’85-86, ’87-88 and ’88-89, and complemented by 18 specials from various years. An ’86-87 Kraft card highlights two dozen miscellaneous food issues, with a dozen full 9-pocket pages featuring Upper Deck, Score, OPC, Topps and other mostly-1990s cards which include a ’90-91 Upper Deck promo job. Our favorites among 15 publications are three Scotiabank Hockey College News magazines featuring a young Gretz on the cover in each of his first three NHL seasons, while a ’79-80 CAHA Hockey Today magazine pictures the teenager and asks, “can the kid excel in the NHL?” Items from Wayne Gretzky’s Restaurant in Toronto (two pucks, shot glass, postcards, etc.) and half a dozen modern insert cards are among the other goodies coming your way if you’re high bidder – you gotta love Wayne!
