Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
One of the greatest bargains in history, selected 8th overall by Boston at the 1979 NHL Draft behind Rob Ramage, Mike Foligno and Rick Vaive, Ray Bourque is a living legend, and serves as arguably the most skilled defenseman the NHL has ever witnessed. The all-time points leader for blueliners, Bourque wore this Boston Bruins captain’s jersey during his final season in The Hub in 1999-00, a season that saw Bourque become the all-time goals leader for defenseman, with the superstar also scoring his 1,500th career point in 1999-00. Pro Player labeling with “56” sizing is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Pro Player crests over the reverse hem. Featuring the classic spoked-B team crest fully administered in tackle twill, “77” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with alternate patches over each shoulder along with the NHL 2000 crest over the right breast. Nice game-use is exhibited, with a large stick mark on the front, and additional dark marks as well as a large patch of material-backed team repairs on the lower left sleeve. The team patch denoting the important garment as a “1st Set” example resides on the inside hem near a screened-on Custom Crafted logo. Worthy of any advanced HOF collection, we should note that Bourque wore multiple jerseys within any given game or set, and has been known to gift game jerseys to people, including staff, with this particular jersey kept by the HOF superstar for his private collection. A signed LOA from Ray Bourque will accompany.
