Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Surviving relics from the greatest international hockey series in history seldom surface, especially desirable specimens directly from prominent participants. These skates were used by 1972 and 1974 Summit Series star Pat Stapleton, and are attributed to use in some capacity at the 1972 Canada-Russia Series, most likely in practices or during training camp. Heavily worn CCM Tacks models with intact original lacing, large “3” decals have been added to each skate, with the pair showing especially heavy use, with additional storage and age wear present, with heavy rubbing to the leather and minor soiling, with the blades entirely rusted. We should note that game-action images of Stapleton during the tournament show skates without numbers, while an image of Stapleton, Dennis Hull and Bill White on the ice seems to show a number on the left skate, so the possibility exists of use by Stapleton during practices with Team Canada in 1972. An LOA from the Stapleton family will accompany.
