Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Plenty of like-new cardboard is up for grabs here and for those of you unaware of Topps’ somewhat confusing hockey card issue of 1981-82, the lowdown is as follows. There was an “east” and a “west” version, with the first 66 cards of each 132-card ensemble the same, while the second halves had either “EAST” or “WEST” on the backs of the cards. The binder of ’81-82s here includes two 132-card sets; the first 66 cards plus the 66 east cards and then the first 66 cards again, but with the 66 west cards, meaning a master 198-card set, plus duplicates of the first 66 cards. Like we said, somewhat confusing. Condition though is first-rate among the pulled star and rookie cards; NM-MT, NM-MT+ and MINT cards abound, with Wayne Gretzky (2) and rookie cards of Savard, Kurri (2), Ciccarelli, Stastny (2) and Murphy leading the way and offering submission candidates, for sure. Meanwhile, a Steve Yzerman RC highlights a 165-card assembly from ’84-85 and appears NM-MT with a touch of ink transfer in the border, near the bottom right corner. A duplicate Yzerman (NM) is a welcome bonus, with Gretzky and rookie cards of Lafontaine, Verbeek, Barrasso and Andreychuk also contributing. Again, a vast majority of sharp, crisp examples are what you can expect when these goodies arrive.
